Meet Your Tutor: Simon Mumford

Simon Mumford

For three decades, I've had the privilege of guiding students through their Physics journey, watching them transform from uncertain beginners to confident young scientists. As a former Head of Physics at a grammar school, I've helped hundreds of students not just understand Physics, but discover their own passion for it. Many of my former students have gone on to pursue successful careers in science and engineering.

Having worked with AQA, OCR, and Edexcel (including international boards) and served as an AQA examiner, I understand exactly what students need to succeed in their exams. But more importantly, I've learned that every student has their own unique way of understanding Physics – it's about finding the right approach for each individual.

What excites me most is seeing that 'light bulb moment' when a challenging concept suddenly makes sense. In recent years, I've embraced online tutoring, incorporating interactive Physics simulations that bring complex theories to life. Whether it's explaining quantum mechanics or breaking down circuit problems, I use these tools to make Physics more accessible and allow students to understand the simple underlying concepts in each topic.

My teaching philosophy is simple: everyone can excel in Physics with the right support. It's about building confidence, understanding real-world applications, and developing problem-solving skills that last a lifetime, which also allows them to excel in their exams and reach their potential.
